VOTING BY MAIL
As a reminder, new state voting laws require voters to put a driver’s license or last 4 digits of voter’s social security number on the mail ballots and applications to vote by mail. Harris County residents voting by mail need to have their ballots in the mail and postmarked by 7 p.m. on May 7, and it must be delivered to our office by 4:30 p.m. on May 9. If delivering in-person, voters have until 7 p.m. on May 7, and they can only drop off their own ballot (not on behalf of a spouse or close family member) at
1001 Preston Street, Houston, Texas 77002.
Along Preston Street, there will be signage and a tent with Harris County Elections staff where voters can drive-thru to turn in their mail ballots and present their ID.
HOW TO USE NEW PAPER BALLOT VOTING MACHINES
Harris County Elections is ahead of the curve in implementing a paper ballot voting system, which will soon be required in the State of Texas. This is a national best practice because there is a paper back-up to the results recorded digitally, and the voter has the opportunity to review and verify their results in an easy-to-read format before finally casting their vote.
